University of Hawaii at Manoa Krauss Hall Drainage Improvements
The scope of this project was to determine the cause of flooding to Krauss Hall and to suggest remedial drainage improvements for the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus. It was determined that the existing drainage systems upstream of Krauss Hall were undersized, specifically along Correa Road and within McCarthy Mall, which resulted in excess storm water runoff overflowing through the Kuykendall courtyard and ultimately flooding Krauss Hall.
The recommended drainage improvement is a relief drain from the Correa Road catch basin through the Kuykendall courtyard and along the roadway between Sakamaki Hall and Krauss Hall connecting to the drain inlet near Dole Street. It is also recommended that concrete curbing along the flooding prone side of Krauss Hall be constructed to safeguard against a storm event larger than the design storm.
