This design-build project involved the reconstruction of 2,200 lineal feet of 4-lane highway from Kukui Grove to Kanani Street, spanning 3 intersections. The new Portland Cement Concrete roadway section included new sidewalks and curb ramps, curb and gutters, bike lanes, drainage systems, and new traffic control signals.
As the prime consultant of the design team, Bow Engineering prepared construction drawings including roadway, grading, utility, drainage, and striping plans along with all associated reports and studies. Services also included all permitting and consultations including NPDES, Section 7, Section 106, CZM, Public Informational Meetings, Utility Agreements, and Property Adjustment Agreements. Complete streets principles were utilized at the Kukui Grove Street Intersection (Kauai’s most dangerous intersection) to minimize crosswalk lengths and improve pedestrian safety. The project began construction in May 2015 and is scheduled to be completed in October.
